Steps to become a retail gallery artist

STEP 1: Become a member (membership can be purchased in person at either the Edmonton or Calgary gallery or online)
STEP 2: Read Advisory Committee Submission Criteria
STEP 3:
Fill out application package, Advisory Committee Questionnaire
STEP 4: Bring in or arrange to have samples of work delivered to the Alberta Craft Gallery - Edmonton
STEP 5: The Retail Gallery Coordinator will present your submission & work to Advisory Committee
STEP 6: The Retail Gallery Coordinator will then contact you with the feedback from the Advisory Committee

If your work is selected to be represented in the Retail Gallery you will be required to upgrade or hold a Professional Membership with the ACC.

Who is on the Advisory Committee?

The Advisory Committee consists of 6 to 8 members of ranging expertise from varying disciplines in fine craft, marketing and promotion, and arts management.

The Advisory Committee is responsible for:

  • convening each month
  • inviting guest artists of specific disciplines to participate in the review process
  • tailoring the review to address the interests of members who seek a general professional critique, representation in the retail gallery, or both for no additional charge
  • assuring a high standard in the quality and marketability of the crafts offered for sale within the Alberta Craft Gallery

The Advisory Committee accepts or declines work for the retail gallery based upon a number of criteria, which have been developed to best assist you, both with your present and future marketing needs, and also with our ability to successfully promote you and your product.


Criteria include:

  • Design
    - originality
    - creativity
    - use of colour
    - suitability of materials
  • Craft Skills
    - finishing details
    - technical skills
    - experience with materials and function
  • Mketability
  • Pricing
  • Product Presentation


NOTE:

  • Work is taken on an ongoing basis
  • The Advisory Committee does not review applications in November or December
  • Be sure to read the Advisory Committee Submission Criteria to assure work fulfils the submission criteria

It is recommended however, that only those craft artists serious about developing their skills and/or career submit a portfolio to the Advisory Committee
