Brian McArthur lives on an idyllic acreage south of Red Deer. In 1999 he and his partner Dawn Detarando created Voyager Art & Tile, a successful business that creates public art in many mediums and a line of decorative tile in their personally designed and built studio outside Red Deer.

Brian’s work has a “Prairie Regionalism” connection and is inspired by Canadian culture, local flora and fauna.  He juxtaposes both whimsy and seriousness to capture the essence of his subjects to create a story that resonates with viewers.  His sculptural work is recognized and exhibited nationally and internationally.

He is currently working on a series of sculptures inspired by his rescue dog Dez.  Dez is a mature northern dog that came from the Yellow Knife SPCA.  Brian has spent hours working and adventuring with Dez going on extended canoeing and hiking trips while also regularly xc skiing, and kick sledding with him. He has found endless amounts of joy and challenges working with Dez.  The initial series of sculptures of Dez are inspired by him at rest.  Brian pays close attention to the structure and form of Dez, capturing his spirit and strength while he is in a quiet and contemplative pose napping on a braided rug.
