Donna Brunner ( Battle Lake) graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and then worked in photography. Further education in fine art from the University of Alberta Extension Department trained her in composition and colour balance. This experience, combined with her love of nature and the ability to see the play of light, has influenced the artwork she creates today.
After spending several years living in downtown Toronto, living in Battle Lake today has given her a deeper appreciation for the local flora. Returning to her roots has given Donna the opportunity to learn dyeing and advanced rug hooking. She finds rug hooking a wonderful medium for expressing how sunlight can both create a profusion of growth, and illuminate it gloriously. It is this interaction she strives to capture in her work.
