Jenn Demke-Lange (Medicine Hat, AB) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007 from the Alberta College of Art + Design where she graduated with distinction as a Ceramics Major. Since graduating she participated in the Medalta International Artist in Residence Program in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She currently maintains a full-time job as Studio Manager at the Medalta International Artists in Residence Program where she is lucky to have her ceramic practice be continually inspired and flourish by the many artists filtering through the studio. Jenn feels that clay has the unique ability to create objects that are accessible, embody personal relationships, and carry years of tradition within them. In her work she aims to create feelings of antiquity, fragility, domesticity and personal narrative. These ideas are developed within her work with the application of soft colour, subtle texture, and patterned illustrations; emphasizing each layer of production from the hand-built seams in a cup to the impulsive application of slip.
