Edmonton fibre artist, Leah Gravells, began quilting in 1997 through classes with local, national and international artists. Leah found an immediate and personal connection to working with fibre. Discovering tremendous satisfaction in selecting fabrics and completing the construction process for each piece, Leah’s designs become signature to her with every selection and variety of fabrics used.
Leah’s fibre art has been accepted for juried national and international shows. Leah’s original series “Canola Fields” has received recognition and awards at the Pacific North West Quilt Show (2013), the Canadian Quilters’ Association National Juried Quilt Show (2014) and the Focus on Fibre Association Biennial Competition (2014) in Edmonton. “Canola Fields- 199 strips” was a finalist in the Houston Quilt Festival – “ Quilts: A World of Beauty” (2014).
All of her compositions blend the fabrics to make unique garden and landscape designs. She uses collage, 2” squares (bright floral and novelty fabrics), 1”(smaller size floral and novelty prints), or ¾ “ strips (batiks fabrics) to create each original design.
