Working with clay satisfies Dianne Hove’s tactile senses. For Dianne, the pot is at its best fresh off the wheel.

Some of Dianne’s pots are decorated using a technique of applying coloured terra sigillata (a fine clay slip) to the unfired, cheese-hard pot and scratching back to the clay beneath. Further carving creates patterns and effects that are similar to woodblock prints. These carved marks enhance and enliven the overall shape of the pot. Her designs focus on patterns, lines, and repeats.

Influenced by nature, Dianne’s leaf pattern is loosely based on poplar leaves floating down from the blue Alberta sky and references autumn leaves floating on streams found in the foothills and mountains around Calgary.
