Joraan Overland

Available at Alberta Craft Gallery - Edmonton

“My work embodies the Scandinavian Modernist movement of the 1960s and 1970s. My handmade jewellery provides the wearer both a statement piece and an easy to wear art form that celebrates my cultural background.”

Joraan’s first career was in photography, where she learned the significance of color, light, and composition. Then, after 10 years of a career in IT and after a visit to her ancestral family farm in Norway, where her Grandparents lived, Joraan knew her design sense held an even deeper place in her mind. “My family lived in these remote mountains of Telemark, Norway for well over 1000 years. I knew then, my design sense is no doubt hardwired through these deep ancestral roots.”

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Joraan now resides in Edmonton. Joraan is an emerging jeweller who studied under the guidance of jewellery artist, Nicole Baxter.
