Zilberschmuck 2012 Call for Entries SUPERSTITIONS |
Details:
SUPERSTITIONS April 12th to May 26th, 2012 Zilberschmuck invites Canadian metal smiths to participate in the eighth annual national juried exhibition of fine jewellery and metalwork including hollowware and sculptural objects. What is a superstition? Webster defines it as a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation. Do you have a favourite superstition? How can old wives? tales, fables and folklore be made into a three dimensional piece? Can you create an allegory that is wearable or tell a legend through a talisman? All cultures have ancient stories and myths passed down through generations regarding customs and fears surrounding the unknown, mysterious or unexplained. Many used traditional wisdom and stories to control and govern. Starting with a simple superstition can you create an object that exemplifies your tale? Can this phrase be materialized into jewellery, hollowware or sculpture? Zilberschmuck invites jewellers and metal artists to participate in a juried exhibition exploring formal and conceptual manifestations behind the word ?SUPERSTITION?. Artists are invited to forge, form or fabricate reflecting their response to superstitions, old wives? tales, folklore and fairy stories. Create up to two different objects, hollowware or wearable metalwork containing a significant amount of metal, but not excluding gemstones, pearls, glass, etc., reflecting the theme and send the work along with an accompanying essay, 150 words or less, to explain your interpretation. The competition is open to all professional and student metal artists living and working in Canada. The entries will be judged on their craftsmanship, design and responsiveness to the theme. There are apprenticeships lasting two months (January - February; March - April; July - August; November - December) and two lasting one month (May and October). The topics covered are listed below.
