Alberta Seen - Landscapes in Fibre

Alberta's land is big and bold and often inescapably powerful. In response, countless Alberta artists - painters, printmakers, potters and others - strive to capture elements of the land in their work.

Expressions of landscape are relatively new in the realm of fibre arts. As fibre artists - quilters, needle workers, weavers, felt makers, fabric painters, and others who work with fibre - contemporize their fine craft disciplines, they are developing new visual approaches and innovative techniques for portraying and expressing the land.

In media as diverse as felted wool, embroidered paper, tapestry and painted silk, they are exploring both representational and abstracted landscape ideas as varied and impressive as the land itself. This exhibition, organized by the Alberta Craft Council, to tour the province, brings you the best of recent landscape work in fibre.
