Birch
Grove The basket with the design of birch trees on it is a coiled basket. Native Indians used the coiled method, except they used grass. I use yarns instead of grasses and wrap it on a modern material: bungee cord. I start by choosing a drawing I have done, then drawing a basket shape that the drawing would fit on. The coils of the basket act as a graph making it easier to follow my design. Next I go to the shelves where the yarn is and choose the colours to go with the design. The end of the bungee cord is covered with hockey tape so the yarn will hold. After wrapping for 5 cm., I then roll the cord into a circle and stitch it together using a figure 8 stitch. Then end is the same as the beginning using the hockey tape but a single coil, like a bracelet, is added on the top.
