Grassland Stripes

I was first interested in zebra stripes seen in a nature magazine.

I increased the scale and drew the design

I carved the line design into soft-cut lino

I printed design onto 100 % cotton muslin fabric

Some time later I used the piece of fabric that I had created as the inspiration for the work.

I repeated the stripe as well as the colour of the print as it echoed the colour of grasslands - habitat for zebras.

I chose to use the tucks to give it some depth and interest and also just to try a new technique.

I used the created fabric as the background to the 3D tucks but also at the top and bottom border to be able to see more of it.

I like the fact that if you walk by the work it gives the impression of the grass moving.
