The cover of a magazine inspired me to do this piece. The photograph was of a parking garage, taken at night, and the way the artificial lights illuminated the bones of the structure found me wanting to interpret it in fibre. I worked the piece in units, pretty well by intuition, rather than sketching them out first. I loved playing with the angles of the stairs, enjoying the lime green colour against the black of the metal. The windows were created with my hand-dyed fabric, using a method of piecing together taught to me by Dianne Hire, a teacher in the United States. Each part is wonky against its neighbour, somewhat suggesting the way that people are parking their cars within the structure. The bottom is slanted to echo the odd angles seen in the rest of the piece.
