A childhood on the Puget Sound and teenage years on the Alberta Prairies and mountains instilled a great love of the natural world that I found all around me. My stitcheries are a way of becoming intimately acquainted with the beauty that I find. The first "skiff of ice" on the pond was a promise of the winter magic to come. It is a way of holding the wonder of it all in my hands. This piece is an interpretation of a photograph. The piece is done with machine and hand embroidery and layering. Materials include every kind of thread I could lay my hands on; nets, unidentifiable fabrics and thin strips cut from a black plastic motor oil container.
