"The designs and shapes of my bowls are a result of my efforts to explore the possibilities of the raw materials. Colours and textures of pieces change depending on whether (or how much) light is either reflected or transmitted through them. Textures both within and on the surface of the glass are a key focal point of my artwork. My most recent pieces consist of crackled textures with interwoven veins of contrasting colour. The texture is very primordial and commonly found in nature. It is present in many sizes and origins. Whether in lava flows, mud cracks formed by desiccation, aged skin, or crackled painted surfaces, it is part of the natural process of earth and animals. To complete the primal image I use strong, predominately primary colours. Some pieces have a hot, molten look whereas others appear cold and quenched. Each piece also contains hints of geometric design. These represent a contrast to inescapable natural processes. These plates are part of my Pangean Series. Pangea is the name of the original supercontinent from which our current landmasses were derived."
