Sam has been a potter for over 20 years. He has studied at the Banff Centre in Alberta, the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and independently in Japan, Korea and China. In England, he also studied with Michael Cardew. Since 1982, Sam and his wife, Antonia Huysman have been making distictive functional pottery in Alberta. One of Sam's coffeepots is in the Maxwell House Collection. In 1984, he was a finalist in the competition to produce tableware for Government House in Ottawa. Sam has exhibited his work internationally and his work is sold across Canada.
