Any enactment of language involves the body: spoken and unspoken, written and erased, materialized and deconstructed. In exploring the inextricable materiality of language to the body, my work tries to reveal the visceral, tactile qualities of text. This enables language to be engaged as both physical and conceptual material: something palpable, sensate, and shifting with each reader. Appropriating paper—the source of books—for my pieces, the sometimes delicate, sometimes stiff properties of the material enable me to manipulate words and their meaning.
