Julia Reimer (Black Diamond, AB) owns and operates Firebrand Glass Studio in Black Diamond with her husband and fellow glass-blower Tyler Rock. When first introduced to glass-blowing she knew immediately that she had found the right form to express her creativity. After graduating in 1996 from the Alberta College of Art + Design, she continued her studies through travels to the US, Scotland, Spain, France and Hungary.
"I was always drawn to the muted luminescence of river ice on bright brisk days in winter. So when I had a chance to combine the essence of light, colour and movement with a material, it was a perfect fit."
Her original designs and meticulous craftsmanship have been recognized through several awards and scholarships. In 2002 she was chosen as an Artist in Residence at the Corning Museums of Glass in New York State and most recently she was the first ever to be presented with the national RBC Award for Glass. Her work is carried in several Canadian and US galleries and has been exhibited in Europe.
Julia is currently located in Adelaide in Southern Australia where she is working at the The Jam Factory, a vibrant craft centre with a glass studio.
