Michael Holton, Calgary

Wood has a beautiful connection with nature. From the sinuous organic aesthetic of the varied grain to the smell each species has when cut; wood reminds us of where it comes from and where we all do. That is why wood has such power to be universally nourishing to the soul.

Michael J. Holton developed an interest in craftsmanship and woodworking in high school and went on to complete the Fine Woodworking Program in Nelson, BC. He created Joseph Carlyle Designs in 2000, a fine furniture studio based in Calgary. Using many varieties of wood and other elements Michael creates beautiful work that is both aesthetically pleasing and perfectly functional.
