Emily Stewart (Calgary, AB) attended the Emily Carr College of Art and Design before transferring to the Alberta College of Art + Design, where she graduated with distinction from the textiles department in 1994. She has worked as head dyer at the Banff Centre and the Stratford Festival and has freelanced as a dyer throughout North America before opening her own textile dyeing studio Dye Pro Services, in Calgary in 2001.
In her Studio Emily custom dyes fabrics for industries worldwide such as fashion designers, film and theatre, dance, ice-skating, mascots and numerous other trades. Emily also supplies both dye and technical support to other dyer working in film, theatre and related industries throughout Canada and the US as the North American distributor for Dylon dyes.
When not custom designing for clients she works at her own art practice. She is influenced by organic shapes, colours and textures found in nature especially natural rock. After sixteen years she continues to experiment with both new and traditional dyeing techniques and dyes.
