Akiko Kohana

Available at the Alberta Craft Gallery Edmonton & Calgary

Akiko Kohana (Edmonton, AB) studied ceramics in her native Japan at the Gen Onodera’s studio and the Nippon Togei Club in Tokyo. When she moved to North America in 1971, Akkiko studied anthropology and ceramics first in California and later in Edmonton.

Akiko has exhibited her work across Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. She has also been commissioned by the University of Alberta, Women’s Studies Centre, the Auxiliary Hospital in Stettler and many local restaurants including Donna’s Restaurant, Japanese Village, Kobe Japanese Bistro and Shogun Restaurant.

Her style and techniques express traditional Japanese designs and in each piece she tries to create a feeling of simplicity.
