ACC member Paul Boultbee (Red Deer, AB) has an exhibition Filtered at Edmonton Public Library's Gallery. Filtered was initially designed as an exhibition for a Red Deer coffee shop. Each of these mixed media pieces started with the application of a used coffee filter. As each piece progressed, I began to include elements from a number of series I had already been working on. For instance, in 2010 I spent time at Spark Box Studio in Picton, ON investigating cemeteries, and the secrets we take to our graves. As a consequence, several of the pieces in Filtered include obituaries from the Globe and Mail. Reading the newspaper early each morning with a cup of coffee by my side is a part of my daily ritual.
