ACC February Spotlight Artist: Dalia Saafan
Dalia Saafan (Edmonton) forms her pieces by sandwiching brass and mica powder between layers of glass that are fused and slumped in a kiln at temperatures reaching 1500 F. Texturing is an important element for Dalia, and is achieved by melting the plate over a bubbled surface. Originally from Egypt, Dalia often incorporates Egyptian and Arabic script and calligraphy as well as Middle Eastern motifs, sharing sentiments such as "Ahlan wa Sahlan" meaning "Welcome".
