SPOTLIGHT: Jesi Yager

  • Alberta Craft Calgary cSPACE Marda Loop 1721 29 AVE SW Calgary (map)

Fibre /Glass artist Jesi Yager creates bold, contemporary jewellery and sculpture exploring the transference of woven pattern into glass.

By sandblasting sheets of glass with weaving patterns/carving texture into transparent or clear sheets to then fill and fuse with opaque glass powders, Jesi cleverly interweaves fiber and glass techniques. Use of vibrant colour paired with bold patterns result in jewellery that is punchy and fun.

“Glass holds and bends light in magical ways, and the idea of weaving with light feels like some kind of spiritual or mythological task.”

About the artist: Jesi Yager is the queer, amputee, immigrant daughter of a doctor and a social justice activist who has made her home in Calgary since 2024.  She has been working with glass for over fourteen years.  In 2026 earned her MFA in craft with a focus in glass from Alberta University of the Arts. Her work was recognized with the university’s Board of Governors award and the student award of the Glass Art Association of Canada.

Our SPOTLIGHT exhibit highlights work by new Alberta Craft members and members producing experimental work.
