Nancy Crites

Nancy Crites was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in western Canada. Her studies began in 1970 at the University of Alberta, where she focused on textile arts, particularly weaving. Saskatchewan and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where she worked with numerous renowned artists.
Currently, Crites is focused on contemporary rug hooking, incorporating unique materials, and concepts into the time-honoured traditional rug hooking techniques. Her full-time studio practice is influenced by the expanses of land in the prairies. Crites creates mats based on memories, mysteries and the energetics of life.
