Re-Dye with Natural Indigo with Danny Ross

This workshop introduces participants to basic indigo vat preparation and specific dyeing techniques to renew or upcycle worn or stained clothing. Participants will bring their own old cotton or linen T-shirt or button up to dye, and will be introduced to traditional itajime wood-block resist shibori techniques. Each participant may additionally dye a provided t-shirt or scarf. The instructor will offer ongoing coaching, demonstration, and support throughout the workshop.

All materials, including latex-free nitrile gloves and optional N95 respirators will be provided.

This workshop is recommended for ages 16+.

This workshop is a part of ENVIRON: Material Literacy & Repair Initiative, a public programming series focused on waste reduction, repair, and material reuse. This initiative is developed with support from the City of Edmonton through the Waste Reduction and Reuse Grant.

About your Instructor:

Danny Ross is a textile and dye artist based in Edmonton. He has been growing and processing his own indigo dye for nearly seven years and has taught many workshops on the topic of natural indigo dyeing, shibori techniques, and a variety of upcycling and renewing garments through sewing and resist dyeing techniques.
