Waste to Wearable: Shrink Plastic Charms with Jennea Frischke

  • Alberta Craft Gallery + Shop 10186 - 106 Street Edmonton, AB, T5J 1H4 Canada (map)

Discover the magic of transforming discarded #6 plastic into beautiful shrink plastic charms. Participants will design and create their own imagery, then watch in wonder as the plastic shrinks and thickens during the heating process.

Using recycled copper or brass wire, participants will learn simple wire-wrapping techniques to elevate their creations into wearable pendants. Skills covered include making jump rings and wire links. This workshop encourages creativity, material exploration, and sustainable making while giving new life to materials that might otherwise end up in the landfill.

Please note that due to this activity including heated plastic, this workshop may be hosted outdoors (weather pending) or with an appropriate ventilation system. N95 respirators will be provided.

This workshop is recommended for ages 16+.

This workshop is a part of ENVIRON: Material Literacy & Repair Initiative, a public programming series focused on waste reduction, repair, and material reuse. This initiative is developed with support from the City of Edmonton through the Waste Reduction and Reuse Grant.
